Rebuilding Public Health System Continues

Kerala has a glorious tradition of public health care system. The first Health Minister of Kerala Dr. A.R. Menon in the EMS Ministry had laid the foundation of the health care system of the State giving emphasis to the medical care and easy availability of treatment facilities to the common man. The successive governments that came to power afterwards had to further build upon the public health system, in spite of certain short falls that sometime cropped up, so that in the eighties and early nineties the health indices of Kerala could be compared to those of the developed countries. However, as in all other sectors during the five years of the previous UDF Government there was perceptible deterioration in the health care system of the State.
