Rebuilding Public Health System Continues

Kerala has a glorious tradition of public health care system. The first Health Minister of Kerala Dr. A.R. Menon in the EMS Ministry had laid the foundation of the health care system of the State giving emphasis to the medical care and easy availability of treatment facilities to the common man. The successive governments that came to power afterwards had to further build upon the public health system, in spite of certain short falls that sometime cropped up, so that in the eighties and early nineties the health indices of Kerala could be compared to those of the developed countries. However, as in all other sectors during the five years of the previous UDF Government there was perceptible deterioration in the health care system of the State.

Revitalising Health Sector

Public health in the state was in total disarray when the LDF came to power.  The Government has made incessant intervention within the system to deliver results to the common people.  This however, energised the health Scenario with sincere efforts, innovative approaches and conscientious administration.

In order that Government health services in the state function up to the expectations of the people Government appointed 119 Assistant Surgeons from the P.S.C. list on contract basis.  This bold step will help the Health Department to surmount the difficulties caused to it from the imbroglio in appointment before the P.S.C.
